Laptop
You will need to bring your laptop to every class session in order to access course texts, complete and submit assignments, etc. You will need to download Audacity, a free audio recording/editing program of nearly 40 MB, so you will need to have sufficient memory on your laptop.

Memory Stick / Portable External Drive (at least 16G)
This memory stick should be used exclusively for this course for backing up project files, working from the lab computers during class, and handing in your projects and final portfolios. You should bring it to every class. Back up your multimodal compositions multiple times and in multiple places each time you work on them.

Access to a Microphone / Sound Recording Instrument
You do not need to purchase expensive recording equipment. Whatever you choose, however, make sure it is compatible with your computer or recording device. You may use cell phones or the built-in microphone available on most computers, but they will produce poor sound quality and are not recommended.

Recommended: Access to a Digital Camera and a Digital Video Camera
You may check out high quality audio recorders, microphones, digital still and video cameras from Media Services: http://rwu.edu/about/university-offices/it/student-services
Whatever equipment you use (especially if you borrow a video camera), make sure that you have the software to access the files and download them to your computer or memory stick.
