Interview Day

Homework Due Today:

Create a tab on your main menu titled "Community Storytelling Project." Under that menu tab, create a page titled "Interview Questions. Post the final list of interview questions your group has prepared (each group member will post the same document). Questions should clearly demonstrate their grounding in the community member's biographical information, and should demonstrate a clear opening-middle-closing structure. Below the interview questions, you should list which group member is primarily responsible for recording, for facilitating the interview, and for taking notes.  You should also note which group member(s) are going to come early to the Mary Tefft White Center, about 12:30  (for 2:00 class) and about 2:30 (for 3:30 class). Note: Please try to post this portion of the homework as soon as possible to allow me to review questions/confirm group roles.

Create a page titled "Audio Bio Reflection" under your Audio Bio/Audio Essay tab on the main menu. Write a healthy paragraph or so in response to each of the following questions:

  1. How did you decide what story (or stories) you wanted to tell in your audio bio? What was it like sharing this story, knowing that others would hear it? What challenges did you face in writing this narrative?

  2. Describe your process of working on this audio bio. How did you approach it? What choices did you make in your writing process that were particularly effective? What do you wish you had done differently? Why?

  3. Assess your audio bio. In addition to telling us what worked well, tell us what you “failed” at in writing this piece? How did you make use of those failures? Consider the quality of your narrative, the structure, pacing, and details of the narrative, the sonic elements you include, etc. What have you learned through the process of working on your audio bio that you want to carry forward for your work on the refugee project?

Begin viewing the Lynda.com tutorials for your video editing program of choice (e.g., iMovie or Moviemaker);

Create a new page titled "Group Contract" located under your "Community Story Project" tab. Develop a group contract (see instructions below). Each group member needs to post the contract on their website:

Group Expectations

What are your group goals for the project? What do you want to accomplish?

What quality of work do you expect from each group member, and what strategies will you employ to ensure that you fulfill those standards?

How will you encourage ideas from all group members?

Group Procedures

What program are you going to use (iMovie, Moviemaker, etc.)? If not all group members have this program, how are you going to manage the work load (e.g., using campus computers, working collaboratively, etc.)?

How are you going to organize and share your files?

Where are you going to store/share files? How are you going to name files (e.g., name and date? Name, date, and initials of last person who edited/saved file?)?

When and where are you going to meet (Days/Times/Location) while working on this project?

How are you going to communicate between meetings/class?

Personal Accountability

Define each group member’s expected level of responsibility for attending meetings, responding to communication from other group members, and completing assigned tasks on time.
